Irene Francis Rapoport

Irene Francis Rapoport, born August 27, 1926, passed away on October 2, 2002 after a long battle with emphysema. Irene, a longtime San Rafael resident originally moved to California when she was 16 years old from Maxwell, Nebraska where she was born. Irene loved life, her family and her friends. Up until her retirement in 1982, Irene worked with her husband Jerry at Wresco, a family business. Irene was a highly regarded credit manager in northern California. In her retirement, Irene enjoyed crossword puzzles, romance novels, and being anywhere with her husband. Irene's family and friends will always remember her wonderful smile, her beautiful blue eyes, her infectious laugh, and the jokes she would call to tell them. Irene is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 40 years, Gerald Rapoport and her five children: Cherie McGrath, Lynne Blumenfeld and her husband Michael Blumenfeld, Aaron Rapoport and his wife Linda Rapoport, Dr. Richard Rapoport and his wife Denise Rapoport, and Lissa Rapoport-Freeman and her husband John Freeman. Of her seven siblings, Irene is also survived by her sisters Fern Hilson, Kay Schmidt and Marge Moody and her brother Paul Carelton. Irene leaves behind six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Irene also leaves behind many cherished friends. A Celebration of Irene's Life will be held on Monday, October 7, 2002 at 11 a.m. at Keaton's Mortuary, located at 1022 E Street, San Rafael, California. Burial will follow at Valley Memorial Park located at 650 Bugeia in Novato, California. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 115 Talbot Avenue, Santa Rosa, CA 95404 or to support macular degeneration research.
