Dorothy Drayna Freitas
Dorothy Freitas died peacefully Saturday morning at home in Sonoma with her husband Louis and her good friend Lucy Bravo by her side. She had been ill for some time and had recently come under the care of Hospice of Marin (Valley of the Moon Chapter).
Dorothy was born September 6, 1914 in Wisconsin. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin and, for many years, traveled the Country selling girls' athletic equipment to schools nationwide. She lived in New York and Chicago before "discovering" California and spending much of her time in St. Helena.
In 1970 she married Lou Freitas at St. Leo's in Sonoma; Lou was 60 years old and Dorothy was 55. It was the first and only marriage for each of them. Lou and Dorothy enjoyed golf and more golf, living in Sonoma, Borrego Springs, California, Wickenberg, Arizona, and finally returning to their beloved Sonoma.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Lou, her sisters, Valerie Siegel of Rockford, Illinois and Barbara Castren of Ojai, California, many nieces and nephews, and her great sense of style and taste.
A Rosary will be said Tuesday evening, 7 p.m. at St. Isabella's Church in San Rafael (Terra Linda). A Mass of Christian Burial will be said Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Isabella's. In lieu of flowers the family prefers a contribution to your favorite charity.
1022 E Street, San Rafael
