Dr. Marvin Richard Gilberg, A Resident of Ross, California
Passed away late Saturday evening June 8, 2002. Born February 3, 1921, in Boise, Idaho, he was the son of the late Gerald and Susan Gilberg. Dr. Gilberg graduated from Washington State University in 1943, where he majored in Zoology and was a college basketball All-American. He later entered the School of Dentistry at the University of California at San Francisco. A Commissioned Officer in World War II, Dr. Gilberg was stationed at Letterman Hospital in the Presidio and was later attached to the Evacuation Hospital in Wurzburg, Germany. Upon leaving the Service, Dr. Gilberg moved to San Francisco, California, where he practiced dentistry at the 450 Sutter for over 40 years. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Wilma Eileen Richardson Gilberg, his two sons, Mark and Erik Gilberg, his two daughters, Kirsten Alston and Mia Benedict, his seven grandchildren, Kelsey, Dwight, Tyler Jacob, and Grace Marie Gilberg, Hunter and Savannah Benedict, and Greer Alston, and his brother, Jack Gilberg. Dr. Gilberg was a member of the Meadow Club in Fairfax, California, and an avid golfer. They say you can't take it with you; for the many of you who lost a lot of money over the years to Marvin's golfing prowess, he wants you to know that he is taking it with him. A Memorial Service will be held today at 3 p.m., Tuesday, June 11, at the Meadow Club in Fairfax, California. In lieu of flowers or other gifts, the family asks that donations be sent in honor of Dr. Marvin Gilberg to Washington State University Foundation (address: French 442, Pullman, WA 99164-1042). You may also choose to designate your contribution to one of two funds: The Herbert L. Eastlick Scholarship Fund or the WSU Basketball Program.
