Joseph A. Sousa, 68, Insurance Executive
Joseph A. Sousa of Strawberry, lifelong resident of Marin and life insurance company executive, died yesterday at a local hospital after a long illness.
Sousa, 68, was born and reared in Tiburon and attended Tiburon School and Tamalpais High School. He also attended the University of California-Berkeley and the University of Pennsylvania.
He served for 45 years with the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. in San Francisco and was a past president of the San Francisco Chapter of Chartered Life Underwriters.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge No. 1108 of San Rafael and the Meadow Club of Fairfax.
At the time of his death, he lived at 32 Harbor Cove Way in Strawberry.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia, and a sister, Mary Hedge of Mill Valley.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Hilary’s Catholic Church in Tiburon. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in San Rafael. The Rosary will be recited at the Russell and Gooch Funeral Home in Mill Valley tomorrow at 8 p.m.
The family has asked that memorial gifts be sent to the American Heart Association or the Easter Seal Society for Crippled Children and Adults of Marin.
A Death Notice in the same paper mentions that he was the brother of the late Anthony Sousa.
