William (Bill) S. Hogan Jr.
Passed away peacefully on February 25, 2002 at age 85. He was born in San Francisco in 1916 and moved to Mill Valley in 1951 with his wife Aileen Donovan Hogan who preceded him in death last year. Bill attended St. Ignatius High School and graduated from the University of San Francisco in 1937 where he was captain of the golf team. During World War II, he served in the Merchant Marines in the South Pacific. Bill began his career in banking as a part-time office messenger at the Bank of San Francisco in 1933 and retired as a Vice President of First Interstate Bank in 1980. He was an avid golfer who enjoyed combining his love of travel and his passion for golf, playing on courses worldwide with his beloved wife Aileen. Beginning in his youth, he was a student and collector of Asian art and in his retirement volunteered as a docent at the Asian Art Museum in Golden Gate Park. He will be remembered by his family and friends as a loving husband, father, grandfather, true friend and kind and gracious gentlemen. He is survived by his three sons, Kevin and his wife Barbara, Brian and his wife Kate and Bill III and his wife Tracy, and by his six grandchildren, Robert, Katherine, Brendan, Ryan, Tyler and Jack. A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Mill Valley on Saturday, March 2, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Marin Humane Society, 171 Bel Marin Keys Blvd., Novato, CA 94949.
