Margaret Leonora McLean Crowell, June 6, 1912 ~ September 18, 2002
Margaret McLean Crowell passed away September 18, 2002 in her Greenbrae, California home at the age of 90 years. Born in Spokane to Lilian Robertson McLean and banker Charles Alexander McLean III, natives of Prince Edward Island, Peggy spent a happy childhood in Spokane and Portland, later moving to Idaho where she graduated from Boise High School in the Class of 1930. At the University of Washington she was an active member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. After college Peg worked as a women's fashion buyer in Boise for The Mode Ltd. Later she worked at leading San Francisco stores including Ransohoff's and I. Magnin. In 1947 she married the late Robert Francis Crowell, established a home in Sausalito, and raised daughter Martha Crowell. Peg was an active artist in the Sight and Insight Studio, participated in antiwar and civil rights movements during the 1960s and 1970s, belonged to the Sausalito Women's Club, and served many years on the Christ Church Altar Guild in Sausalito. She is survived by her sister-in-law Hulda Hoover McLean, daughter Martha and fiance Bernie, nephews Charles, Allan and Robertson, and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews. Loved ones will conduct a Memorial Service at 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 30th at Christ Episcopal Church, in Sausalito, California (415) 332-1539 http://christchurchsausalito.org. Memorial contributions may be made to support macular degeneration research or other charitable purposes.
