Age 87, passed away February 9, 2002. Born in San Francisco on August 31, 1914, George made Novato his home for the past 26 years. He was a liquor salesman until his retirement. His greatest love was his wife Gert, who preceded him in death. They had been married for 63 years, and had known each other all of their lives. His second greatest love was tennis, which he played for 70 years. George was a Masonic member of 55 years, and belonged to the City of Hope. In more recent years, he enjoyed volunteering at Kaiser Hospital in San Rafael, where he shared his sense of humor with everyone.
He leaves a daughter, Sharon Gustafson and her husband Gary of Novato, as well as two granddaughters, Lainie Tompkins of Washington, D.C., and Andrea Menschel, who along with her husband, Rob, resides in Los Angeles. He also leaves two great-grandsons, Kyle and Jared Menschel.
Gifts of remembrance on behalf of George may be made to Hospice of Marin or The Jewish Home in San Francisco. A private Celebration of His Life will be held by his immediate family.
