San Rafael – The funeral for William Francis Turton of San Rafael is pending at Keaton’s Mortuary, San Rafael.
Turton, a retired Air Force chief master sergeant, died Wednesday in a San Francisco hospital after undergoing heart surgery. He was 59.
Born in Connecticut, he served 31 years in the military, earning numerous medals and citations for outstanding performance. He was an instructor at the Non Commissioned Officers Academy at Hamilton Air force Base after coming to Marin in the early 1960s.
“Turton was an outstanding instructor,” according to Frank E. Kirby, Marin County emergency services coordinator, who formerly was his commanding officer at the base.
Turton is survived by his wife, Mildred Turton of San Rafael; stepchildren Dan and Karen Hubbard of Novato and Janet Page of Santa Rosa; five grandchildren, and a brother, Kenneth Turton, in New York.
The family prefers memorial contributions to the American Heart Association.
