Native San Franciscan
Margaret F. Silverman of Greenbrae, a third generation San Franciscan, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1993, of cancer at The Tamalpais. She was 81.
Mrs. Silverman was a graduate of Stanford University, where she was an English major.
She went on to use her education in journalism, writing science-related material with her husband, Milton Silverman, the former science editor at the San Francisco Chronicle.
Her son, Richard Silverman of Telluride, Colo., referred to his mother as a “socially conscious” person. She was active in numerous charitable groups, including the Red Cross.
She is also survived by two daughters, Lynne Rieke of Santa Maria and Bambi Derg of San Anselmo; a sister, Beatrice Brunsten of Los Angeles, and four grandchildren.
Her family suggests memorial contributions to Hospice of Marin or to the American Red Cross.
Arrangements are by Russell & Gooch Funeral Chapel in Mill Valley.
