Marian E. Michaels, Amateur Musician
A Mass of the Christian Burial for Marian E. Michaels, a volunteer worker and amateur musician, will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow at St. Raphaelís Church, San Rafael.
Mrs. Michaels, 69, died Sunday in a local hospital after a long illness.
She was a native of San Francisco and lived all of her life in the Bay Area, residing in Berkeley, Oakland and San Francisco before moving to San Rafael five years ago.
Mrs. Michaels was an accomplished pianist and a composer according to family members. She was a member of many volunteer groups, including the Nazareth House Auxiliary, the Corpus Christi Ladies Guild, and the Sisters of Social Service. She also was a former president of Zeta Tau Alpha mothers at the University of California at Berkeley.
Her late husband, Dr. George D. Michaels, was a medical research scientist who specialized in heart disease and cancer. He was one of the pioneer researchers in low cholesterol diets.
Mrs. Michaels is survived by three daughters, Loretta Van Vleck of Novato, Mary Anne Zullinger of Las Vegas and Alana Spranger of Sacramento; a son, Harry G. Michaels of San Mateo, a brother, George Burton and a sister, Muriel Cramer. She also is survived by seven grandchildren.
Rosary will be at 8 p.m. today in Keatonís Mortuary.
Burial will be in St. Maryís Cemetery, Oakland.
The California Death Index gives her date of birth: Feb. 27, 1906.
