DAVID W. BELL
A memorial service has been held for David Walker Bell of Willits, a former Marin resident and an authority on early jazz.
Mr. Bell died Wednesday in his home after a lengthy illness. He was 62.
Mr. Bell, a native of Danville, Ill., had lived in Marin for 20 years before moving to Willits eight years ago. He owned Bell American Answering Service in Willits until his retirement recently.
He founded one of the earliest jazz recording labels and was an authority on early jazz. About 10 years ago, he published the Golden Years, one of the first senior citizen publications in the Bay Area.
Mr. Bell is survived by two daughters, Jamie Ahola of Mendocino County and Tracy Walker Chin of Santa Rosa; a son, Oliver Walker Bell of Willits; three stepdaughters, Jaleela Al-Saadoon of Willits, Thanya Al-Saadoon of Washington, Ameera Al-Saadoon of Marin; a stepson, Hadi Al-Saadoon of San Anselmo; and five grandchildren.
The family prefers contributions to St. Anthony’s Dining Room in San Francisco.
