Alvin F. Hughes Dies In Hospital

Alvin F. Hughes, correctional sergeant at San Quentin Prison and a member of the prisonís staff of correctional officers since 1938, died this morning at a local hospital after a long illness. He was 63.

Hughes and his wife, Mrs. Nora C. Hughes, lived at 16 Serra avenue, Corte Madera. They have no children.

Hughes was appointed correctional sergeant at the prison on July 1, 1948, after 10 years as a member of the staff, and retained that rank to the time of his death.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Harry M. Williams Mortuary in San Rafael.

A Death Notice in the same paper adds information: Alvin Foster Hughes was husband of Nora Chaffee Hughes, brother of Mrs. Marietta Dial (?) of Modesto, Mrs. Isabel Groom of Stockton and Edward Alexander of Columbia, Calif. He was a native of California. He was a member of Holy Innocents Episcopal Church, Corte Madera, Brotherhood of St. Andrew, and the National Rifle Assn. and was a veteran of World War I.
