Violet Marie Nelson
A memorial service for Violet Marie Nelson, a resident of San Rafael for more than 60 years, will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Valley Baptist Church in San Rafael.
Mrs. Nelson died unexpectedly Monday, June 29, 1987, at Kaiser Hospital in San Rafael. She was 88.
She was a native of Fort George, Inverness, Scotland. After living for several years in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Mrs. Nelson moved to San Rafael in 1923.
She operated a home-based catering service in San Rafael for many years.
Mrs. Nelson was an ardent gardener and enjoyed bowling for many years.
She was a member of Valley Baptist Church.
“She was the best chocolate chip cookie maker,” said her grandson, Larry Nelson of Sacramento.
Her husband, John Nelson, died in 1966.
Mrs. Nelson is survived by a son, Robert John Nelson of Zephyr Cove, South Lake Tahoe; a daughter, Torvaline Chandler of Reno, Nev.; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The family prefers that memorial donations be sent to Valley Baptist Church, 3 North San Pedro Road in San Rafael.
