Jacob P. Sellmer Dies at 98
Jacob P. Sellmer, 98-year-old father of former Marin County Sheriff Walter B. Sellmer, died yesterday in a local hospital six days after collapsing in his Stinson Beach home.
Sellmer built small airplanes in a shop at his home in recent years. Earlier he had many trades – harness making, carpet laying and upholstery and drapery hanging. He also had a chicken farm in Novato and was a house builder.
Born in Denmark, Sellmer emigrated to American in 1891, settling in San Francisco.
His son, who was sheriff from 1931 to 1955, flew a one-seated airplane built by the elder Sellmer at Stinson Beach. The father also constructed a helicopter using the augur principle, but it was never flown.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Russell and Gooch Funeral Chapel, Mill Valley. Burial will be in Mount Tamalpais Cemetery, San Rafael. Contributions to the Cerebral Palsy Fund are preferred.
