CHARLES A. AUSTIN
Charles A. Austin, 87, of Corte Madera, a member of the U. S. rugby team that won the Olympic Games in 1924, died Saturday in a local convalescent hospital after an illness.
He was born in Bellingham, Wash., and lived in San Francisco before moving to Marin about 16 years ago.
Austin was captain of the rugby team at Stanford University in 1914.
He was a civil engineer with the federal government for 35 years.
Austin was a life member of the Stanford’s Half Century Club and a member of the university’s Block S Association and Albany Post 292 of the American Legion.
He has no known living survivors.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Larkspur. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, San Rafael.
