Rev. JOHN CUNNINGHAM
A Mass of Christian Burial for the Rev. John J. Cunningham of San Jose, former pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Mill Valley and a former teacher at Marin Catholic High School, will be celebrated at 7:30 p.m. Monday at St. John Vianney Church, San Jose.
The mass will be celebrated by the Most Rev. John R. Quinn, archbishop of San Francisco.
Cunningham, 58, died Thursday in a San Jose hospital after a brief illness.
He was a native of San Francisco.
He was ordained in 1946 and graduated in 1953 from Catholic University in Washington, D.C., with a masterís degree in education. He taught at Marin Catholic High School from 1953 to 1965, when he became pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. He had been pastor of St. John Vianney since 1972.
He is survived by a sister, Phyllis Heflin of St. Helena.

A Death Notice in the same paper adds that he was also the brother of the late Patricia R. Pryor and Albert Cunningham; he was the uncle of Sister Phyllis Cook S.N.D. of Alameda, Anne Gryez of Palo Alto, Dan Heflin of Calistoga and Michael Cunningham of Oregon; he was the nephew of Berenice Bergen of Alameda. Arrangements by the Darling-Fischer Garden Chapel in San Jose.

An abbreviated obituary appeared in the March 26 paper, announcing that a memorial mass would be held March 28th in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Mill Valley.
