MABEL R. LYONS
The funeral service for Mabel R. Lyons, 83, of San Rafael, a retired school teacher and descendant of a pioneer family, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Monte’s Mission Chapel, San Rafael.
Mrs. Lyons died Tuesday at a local hospital after an illness.
She was the widow of Jack Lyons, a retired Pacific Gas and Electric Co. employee.
Mrs. Lyons had been a teacher in San Rafael city schools for 20 years before she retired in 1963. She previously had taught in Napa for about five years.
She was a native of Bolinas and a member of a family that was in the Anza Rivera expedition in 1774 with Father Junipero Serra. Mrs. Lyons was related to Domingo Sais who had the Mexican grant in the area that is now Ross, San Anselmo and Fairfax.
She was a member of San Rafael Chapter 215, Order of the Eastern Star.
Surviving are a son, Jack W. Lyons of San Anselmo, and a grandson.
Private burial will be at Mount Tamalpais Cemetery, San Rafael. The family prefers that memorial contributions be made to a favorite charity.
