Giovanni Ponti, retired Marin Municipal Water District laborer, died at his San Rafael home last night despite efforts of a fire department resuscitator squad to revive him. He was 77.
His daughter, Mrs. Marguerite Lahmann of 170 Mission Avenue, where Ponti resided, said her father finished dinner and collapsed in the living room. Firemen applied the resuscitator for 15 minutes until a doctor arrived and pronounced Ponti dead at 8:05 p.m.
The doctor said Ponti apparently suffered a heart attack.
A native of Italy, Ponti moved to Canada and then to San Rafael in 1927. He worked for the water district for almost 23 years, retiring about eight years ago.
He is survived by a sister, Rosa Mira of Canada; his daughter; two sons, Louis and Charles Ponti of San Rafael. and three grandchildren.
The Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. tomorrow at Keatonís Mortuary, San Rafael. A Requiem High Mass will be celebrated at St. Raphaelís Church at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
A Death Notice in the same paper adds that he was the grandfather of Kathleen Ponti and Linda and Dianna Lahmann.
