Carl R. Schmidt Dies At 87
Carl R. Schmidt, a resident of San Rafael for the past 80 years, died yesterday at a local convalescent home where he had been under care for some time.
Schmidt. 87, of 1210 Grand Avenue, was the retired president of the Schmidt Lithograph Co. of San Francisco, now the Stecher-Traung-Schmidt Corp. of San Francisco.
A native of San Francisco, he moved to Marin 80 years ago, to the original family home near what is now Gerstle Park. About 1900, he moved to Grand Avenue where he lived until entering the convalescent home.
He was a past president of the Lithographers National Association and was the oldest living past master of the Marin Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons 191. He was also a member of the Meadow Club of Fairfax, the Bohemian Club of San Francisco and the San Francisco Shrine.
Survivors are his wife, Caroline Schmidt; a son, Lorenz L. Schmidt of San Rafael; two daughters, Carol Abraham of San Rafael and Marie L. Early of the Monterey Peninsula, and two brothers, Bernhardt Schmidt, formerly of San Anselmo and now of the Monterey Peninsula, and Max Schmidt of Atherton.
Private funeral was held today at Keatonís Mortuary with burial in Mount Tamalpais Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the donorís favorite charity.
