William P. Lanigan Dies At 78
William P. Lanigan, a resident of Marin for 14 years and a well known San Francisco shoe merchant, died yesterday in his Ross home after a long illness of cancer.
Lanigan, 78, retiring two years ago after selling his Dickerson Shoe Store at 537 Sutter Street, San Francisco. He was a member of the West Coast Shoe Travelers Assn. and factory representative in the 11 Western states for Dickerson shoes.
A native of New York, he had lived in California 42 years.
He leaves his wife, Anne B. Lanigan of Ross; three daughters, Mrs. (sic) Laura Lanigan of Fairfax, Mrs. Virginia Hernandez of Santa Barbara and Mrs. Madeline Blair of Worcester, Mass., and two sons, William P. Lanigan Jr. of Fairfax and Richard Todd of Grants Pass, Ore. He leaves also 13 grandchildren.
The funeral corteg[e] will leave at 8:30 a.m. Friday from the Harry M. Williams Mortuary, San Rafael, and proceed to St. Anselm’s Church, San Anselmo, where at 9 a.m. a High Mass of Requiem will be offered.
A Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. tomorrow at the mortuary. Interment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
A Death Notice in the same paper adds that he was the grandfather of Dennis and Brian Lanigan, Janice and William Blair, Michael, Martin, Francis, Mary, Joseph and Elaine and Margaret Todd.
