Edward Shannon Dies On Tam Climb
A pleasant picnic on Mt. Tamalpais ended in tragedy yesterday when Edward P. Shannon, about 55, of San Francisco suffered a fatal heart attack after a race to the mountaintop.
Shannon, a smoke shop employee who lives at 1224 Union street, was one of a party of five who had spent the afternoon picnicking at Laurel Dell picnic grounds near the summit. Near evening they decided to climb to the top, and Shannon was the first to reach the summit.
Back at their car he complained of feeling ill and suddenly slumped over. Death was apparently instantaneous.
With Shannon on the outing were Mr. and Mrs. James Bright, 2600 Van Ness avenue, Mrs. Enid E. Bauchman of 2507 Polk street and Miss Mary Bernison of 2701 Van Ness avenue, all of San Francisco.
Shannon is survived by a sister, Marie Nelson of 124 Union street, San Francisco.
