Death of J. B. Rice
Another old pioneer of Marin County passed away last Sunday. Mr. J. B. Rice died at his home in Larkspur. Mr. Rice was for many years in the wood and coal business in San Rafael, and at one time filled the honorable position of assemblyman from this county. For 40 years, the deceased was a well-known figure in Marin County and made many friends. It is said Mr. Rice in 1853 was shipwrecked near Bolinas and thus decided to make Marin County his abode.
Deceased was 72 years of age within one day. A wife, one son and two daughters survive him. The remains were conveyed to San Francisco last Tuesday and cremated at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in that city.
