Searching Crews Fail to Find Body of Drowned Youth
Efforts to recover the body of Robert Marelli, of Larkspur, sophomore of the U.C., who was drowned off McNearís Beach Sunday afternoon have been in vain.
Sheriff Sellmer and crew of deputies spent several days dragging the bay in the vicinity of the fatality but without results.
Immediately after the drowning, Quong Bros., fishermen used a large net where the boy was reported to have sunk, but this also failed of results, and it is now believed that the body has been carried away with the tide.
Marelli was in a row boat, with Robert Daly and Miss Marie Mohum. All were attired in bathing suits. They lost their oars in the choppy water and both boys went overboat to retrieve them. Daly recovered his oar, and was returning to the boat when he heard Marelli call for help, then immediately disappear below the surface.
The alarm was given and Chief Castro rush[ed] to the beach with a resusitator, and Undersheriff Ed Blum went to work with grappling hooks.
Besides the three members of the party in the boat, Marelliís sister Dorothy and Francis Stewart were on the shore.
