Margaret Schafer, San Rafael, Dies
Mrs. Margaret Schafer of San Rafael, whose parents were the original lighthouse keepers at Lime Point under the Golden Gate Bridge, died yesterday in a local hospital.
Mrs. Schafer, 82, had lived in Marin County all her life. She was born in Sausalito, one of 16 children of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Machado. She resided at 1330 Fourth Street in San Rafael.
Private funeral services will be held Friday at the Harry M. Williams Mortuary in San Rafael.
Mrs. Schafer was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary 256, Fraternal Order of Eagles; Parlor 198, Native Daughters of the Golden West; Genessee Council 180, Degree of Pocahontas, and Tamalpais Auxiliary 72, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Sophie Phillips of San Rafael and Mrs. Marian Stellings of Sausalito; four sisters, Mrs. Mabel Leach of Petaluma, Mrs. Rita Chase, Mrs. Lucy Bottini and Mrs. Leah Nettro of Sausalito; two brothers, Joseph Machado of Sausalito and Frank Machado of Alto; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
