County Pioneer Dies In San Rafael
Mrs. Elizabeth Driscoll, San Rafael nonagenarian and Marin county pioneer, died today at her home at 402 D street. She had been a resident of Marin county for 85 years.
Funeral mass will he held at 9 a.m. Saturday in St. Raphaelís church, San Rafael. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet cemetery. Rosary services will be read at 8 p.m. tomorrow at Keatonís mortuary, San Rafael.
Mrs. Driscoll was born at San Leandro 91 years ago. She came to Marin with her parents when she was a baby and spent her girlhood days on their ranch at Dillonís Beach.
In 1947 she sat back in her comfortable rocker, took up her knitting and related her early school days. That was in the days before school buses and the days when a one-room school was a luxury.
She stopped frequently on the way to school with her brothers and sister to pick and eat the wild strawberries that grew in abundance in her neighborhood. She was the former Elizabeth OíNeil and at the OíNeil ranch she and other youngsters had moments of recreation at the OíNeil pond.
Later she attended Petaluma High school and soon after leaving there she married John G. Driscoll at the ranch. He was a locomotive engineer. She had lived in San Rafael for more than 80 years.
Mrs. Driscoll was a member of the Catholic Ladies aid society.
She leaves a daughter, Mrs. Mary C. Jones, and a son, Louis F. Driscoll; and the following grandchildren. Mrs. Eleanor Schroeder, Mrs. Marian Shelly, Mrs. Margaret Jonason, and John Driscoll. Her husband, and John Driscoll (sic). Her husband and two sons preceded her in death.
