Donald Francis Sullivan
A Resident of San Rafael
Passed away suddenly on November 30, 2000 at the age of 59. Mr. Sullivan was born October 10, 1941 in Los Angeles at Queen of Angels Hospital. He resided in South Los Angeles until 1950, when his family moved to Encino, California. He attended Our Lady of Grace School, Encino; Notre Dame High School, Sherman Oaks, and graduated in 1959. He attended the University of Southern California from 1959 to1965, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture. He passed the Architecture Licensing Board in 1966. He worked for Skidmore, Owings and Merrill from 1964-1980 in San Francisco. Some of his work included the Federal Reserve Building, U.S. Post Office at 3000 Market Street, and the Engineering Building, University of Hawaii, Oahu while at SOM. In 1980, he formed Werner & Sullivan Architecture – a partnership with William A. Werner. Their accomplishments include working on many commercial properties in San Francisco and the Bay Area, several post office sites throughout California and won Honor Award for Excellence, Design at Rincon Center, San Francisco, National Award of recognition from the Building Stone Institute for Tiffany’s Union Square in 1992.
Mr. Sullivan was an active member of the Olympic Club, the Family and a member of the Northern Cal Chapter Associates for USC. He gave many hours and support to the MYO Teen Center, San Rafael, which has been his volunteer focus for the last few years and was responsible for the design of their new site.
He is survived by his parents, Harold and Anita Sullivan of Encino; his wife, Stevi and three children, Grady, age 20; Miles, age 14; and Harper Belle, age 11 of Lucas Valley. He is greatly missed by his family, friends, and associates. He was as big in heart as his stature.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Isabella’s Church, 1 Trinity Way, San Rafael on Thursday, December 7, 2000 at 1:00 PM. A second Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Wayside Church, 930 Portola Road, Portola Valley, California on Saturday, December 9, 2000 at 11:00 AM (650) 851-5085.
