It must have been the "Summer and Kaufmann" store in Stonestown back in the early sixties that had a live monkey in the window at the back of the store, the side facing 19th ave. The store was located at the north end of the mall, perhaps the second or third store away from the Emporium. The window was about the size of a regular door and there was a bare tree branch that sort of ran from top to bottom in the enclosure. I believe it may have been a squirrel monkey. Hard to remember any details as I was only about four or five years old at the time. I do remember that it didn't look too happy.
: : I'm pretty sure it was Summer and Kaufmann (although I'm not sure of the spelling). I remember the big rocking horses. I also recall they had a store at Stonestown as well.
: : : Does anyone recall the name of a multi story fine shoe store on Market St across from the Emportium? The shoe store had a window breezeway connecting to Ellis St. The 3rd floor housed children's shoes. There was entertainment for kids with a monkey cage and big rocking horses. Back then you can check your shoe fitting with a fluroscope (x-ray machine). I think the store closed up during the early 1960's.
