Funeral for Elmer Douglas Bills, 83, of Windsor, Sonoma County, a former Marin County resident and once sheriff of Sonoma County, will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the Eggen and Lance Mortuary in Santa Rosa.

Bills, who has been in the real estate and insurance business for many years, died in a Santa Rosa hospital Sunday.

A native of Fall River Mills, Shasta County, he once was employed by Northwestern Pacific Railroad for six years, working in San Rafael and later in Tiburon.

He became a sheriff’s deputy in Sonoma County in 1919 and was elected sheriff in 1926.

He leaves his wife, Edith of Windsor, and a brother, Howard Bills of Petaluma.
