JOSEPH J. BREZINA
Former fire commissioner

A memorial celebration for Joseph Jerry Brezina of Mill Valley was held at Marin Joe’s.

Mr. Brezina died of cancer at home July 12. He was 81.

He moved to Mill Valley with his family in 1950.

He graduated from Cornell University with a master’s degree in mechanical engineering.

Mr. Brezina was an expert on boilers. He worked as an engineer for such companies as Corning Glass Works, Bechtel Engineering, Bohna Engineering and B+A Engineering.

Mr. Brezina served in the U.S. Navy and Naval Reserve for 22 years. He also was a fire commissioner in Tamalpais Valley.

He served on the board of the Almonte Sanitary District from 1969 to 1978, and was president of Almonte Improvement Club. He was also a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and Reserve Officers of America.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth M. Brezina of Mill Valley; his former wife, Jean Edwards Brezina; a daughter, Ann Brezina Kizer of Idaho; a sister, Antoinette Brezina of San Diego; and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Marin, 150 Nellen Ave., Corte Madera.
