William Wallace Collier
Passed away after a short illness on February 2, 2002 at the age of 83. Loving husband of Janet for 54 years. Devoted father of Douglas Collier, Helen Churchill, Ronald Collier, and Julie Rusby. He was the first of five children; preceded in death by his sister, Dr. Ella Collier, and survived by brother Charles Collier, sister Martha Trainer, and brother John Collier. Also survived by six loving grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and was a father figure to many more.
Born in Colon, Panama on February 11, 1918, he was a long-time resident of the Bay Area. He was a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley with a BA in Economics in 1942 and member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He served in the Army Air Corp 13th Fighter Command in the South Pacific during WWII. He was the owner and manager of Collier Building Specialties in San Francisco since 1966 and acting consultant since 1985. He also was active in local politics in Corte Madera, serving as a City Councilman, and on the Planning Commission and Board of Adjustments. He was a creative artist, gardener, book collector, and avid sports fan. His sense of humor, gregarious laughter, warm guidance, and graciousness will be missed by all.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Hospice of Marin, 150 Nellen Avenue, Corte Madera, CA 94925-1133. A private family memorial will be held. Arrangements under direction of the Neptune Society.
