Sudden Heart Attack Claims Life Of E. F. Dolan, San Rafael Businessman
Edward F. Dolan, owner of the Vari-Mart, San Rafael women’s apparel shop, passed away suddenly this morning at his home after a heart attack. He was 50 years of age.
Dolan, who was born in Ohio, had been works manager of the United States Electric Company in Los Angeles and during the war had been production manager of Lockheed Aircraft in Los Angeles. At the end of the war he and his family moved to San Jose where he became works manager of the Food Machinery Corporation in that city.
He opened the Vari-Mart at 1419 Fourth Street last October in partnership with his brother, George. Active in Catholic organizations, he was a member of Knights of Columbus and was engaged in working on the St. Raphael’s Fiesta of which he was general manager, at the time of his death. He was also a member of San Jose Lodge No. 522, B.P.O.E. His home was at 370 Irwin Street, San Rafael.
He leaves his wife, Zelda O. Dolan, two sons, Edward F. Dolan Jr. and Michael Dolan, and a grandson, Timothy Dolan. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. George J. Dolan and the brother of George J. Dolan Jr. and Mrs. Esther Weymouth.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Harry M. Williams Mortuary. A solemn high requiem mass will be said at 10 a.m. Tomorrow evening, the rosary will be recited at the mortuary at 8 o’clock.
A Death Notice in the same paper gives his mother’s name as Jennie.
