John J. Curtin of San Rafael, an insurance company official, died yesterday in a local hospital after a short illness. He was 56.
Born in San Francisco, Curtin moved with his parents as a child to San Rafael. He had been in the insurance business, and was most recently marketing manager for Maryland Casualty Co. in San Rafael.
Curtin was a member of Elks Lodge 1108, San Rafael; Blue Goose of San Francisco, Marin Rod and Gun Club, Meadow Club, and University of San Francisco Alumni Association.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara, of the family home at 62 Culloden Park Road; two daughters, Maureen Evermann of Lafayette, Ind., and Kathleen Hodges of Portland, Ore.; a son, John J. Curtin Jr. of the home; a sister, Josephine Curtin of Napa, and two grandchildren.
Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Raphael’s Church.
A Death Notice in the same paper adds information: he was the grandfather of Jamie Evermann and William T. Hodges. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma. Rosary services 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7 at the Keaton Chapel, 1022 E Street, San Rafael.
