Dr. Walter Coulson
Passed away on February 18, 2002 in San Francisco. He was a retired physician, former Chief of Radiology at San Francisco General Hospital, where he worked for 28 years, and Associate Clinical Professor at UCSF. After retirement, Dr. Coulson served as a Nuclear Safety Officer on submarines in the Pacific for six years. As a freshman at Harvard College, he joined the U.S. Navy at age 17 and served in the Pacific on a destroyer until July 1946. He graduated from Harvard in 1949 and from Harvard Medical School in 1953; he was an Intern and Resident at UCSF for four years until becoming Administrative Radiologist at SFGH in 1957. He was a former athlete with five letters; Captain of the Harvard Baseball Team 1948-9; and member of the Varsity Club Hall of Fame.
Dr. Coulson was married for 43 years to Eleanor Rousseau Coulson and resided in Kentfield for 40 years. Their children, Mrs. Deryk Van Brunt of Ross, Mrs. John P. Seymour of Santa Rosa, Mrs. Steele Harris of Menlo Park, and Dr. Michael Coulson of Santa Cruz, along with eight grandchildren survive him.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. John's Church, Ross, Saturday, February 23 at 4:00 PM. The family hopes that donations may be made to the Marin Heart Foundation, 2 Bon Air Road, Larkspur, CA 94939.
