Clergyman Dies; Prison Visitor

Rev. Reinholdt Evjenth, who gave solace to many men taking the last walk into the San Quentin Prison gas chamber, died of a heart attack Saturday at the age of 87.

Funeral services were held today in San Francisco.

Rev. Evjenth served 35 years as chief institutional chaplain for the Lutheran Church in Northern California, retiring only four years ago. In this capacity he made frequent visits to San Quentin, Folsom and other prisons.

He is survived by his wife, Martha; by two sons, Samuel and Theodore Evjenth; two daughters, Mrs. Helen Cole and Mrs. May Brouwer, and by eight grandchildren.
