ROBERT R. KNITTEL
Foster Parent president
Robert Ramey Knittel of Novato died Wednesday, March 31, 1993. He was 58.
Mr. Knittel was born in Mooreland, Okla. He lived in Marin 50 years.
He graduated from San Rafael High School in 1954.
He was a former owner of a cabinet shop in San Rafael and was a former employee of the San Rafael High School athletic department.
Mr. Knittel was the former president of the Main County Foster Parent Association.
For 20 years, he and his wife, Judith L. Woodward, operated a foster home for young boys at their home in Novato. They were honored by the state and Marin County on many occasions for their dedication. They cared for more than 125 foster children.
He was an Eagle Scout.
Besides his wife of 38 years, Mr. Knittel is survived by a daughter, Kathryn L. Graham of Novato; two sons, Richard D. Knittel of Phoenix, Ariz., and Frederick A. ďAndyĒ Knittle of Novato; his mother, Faith B. Knittel of Sunnyvale; five brothers, Louis S. Knittel and James B. Knittel, both of Santa Clara County, Wilbert R. Knittel and Albert L. Knittel, both of San Rafael, and H. Duane Knittel of Gustine; a sister, Hope A. Durham of San Rafael; and 11 grandchildren.
He also leaves four foster children, Kevin James Smith of Vallejo, Daniel Newman of San Diego, Clifford Gardner of San Rafael and James Scott Hendrix of Sacramento.
Visitation was scheduled for 4 to 9 p.m. today at the chapel of Valente, Marini, Perata and Co., 4840 Mission St., San Francisco.
Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. tomorrow at the Chapel of Memorial Park in Novato.
A Death Notice in the same paper adds information: he was the grandfather of Nicole and Kyle Graham, Jennry, Christopher, Evan, Darcy and Robert Knittel, Sam Cutrufelli, Mara Grace Smith, Steven Richard and Billy Newman; son of the late Louis Knittel; son-in-law of Thomas and Mary Jane Woodward and the late Frank and Lola Blynn.
