Carlisle Rickards Dies At 72 After Illness
Carlisle Rickards Sr. of San Rafael, a son of the second governor of the state of Montana and father of Homer Rickards and Carl Rickards Jr., operators of the Drake Market in San Anselmo, died Saturday after an illness of about two months. He was 72.
Rickards was a native of Butte, Mont. His father, John E. Rickards, was governor of that state from 1893 to 1897.
He engaged in the ranching and grocery business in Willits for many years, retiring in 1935. He moved to Marin about 15 years ago and to San Rafael about 10 years ago. His home was at 39 W. Crescent drive.
Survivors, besides his to sons, are his wife, Mrs. Emma Rickards; two daughters, Mrs. Harriet Robinson of Sacramento and Mrs. Betty Smith of Belleville, Ill., and 11 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the Chapel of the Hills, San Anselmo. Inurnment will be private.
