Pioneer Resident Taken By Death
Having lived in Marin County for nearly 60 years, Antone F. Sousa was taken by death recently, and funeral services were held Saturday from the mortuary of Keaton & Dusel, this city, and thence to St. Anselm’s Church, where mass was celebrated for the repose of his soul.
Sousa, who was very well known in this vicinity, came from San George in the Azores islands when he was but seven years old, and spent a lifetime in Ross and San Anselmo. He was a member of San Rafael Chapter of the U.P.E.C., and the Novato Council of the I.D.E.S. He had been ill for the last year, but his condition did not become serious until two months ago, and he was removed to San Francisco, where he died.
He is survived by the following sons and daughters: John, Antone, Joseph, William, Frank, George and Dorothy Sousa, Mrs. Julia Lawson, Mrs. Rose Shaffer; and he was the husband of the late Julia F. Souza (sic) and brother of George Bettencourt and Barbara Picanca.
