Eugene J. Walsh, 59, of San Rafael, a retired special patrol officer in San Francisco, died Saturday at a hospital after a short illness.

Walsh had been a resident of Marin for nine years and previously was a longtime resident of San Francisco. He was a native of Oakland.

He served in the Navy during World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Katherine G. Walsh of San Rafael; two daughters, Patricia Walsh of Petaluma and Geri Walsh of San Francisco; three sons, Daniel Walsh of San Rafael, Michael Walsh of San Francisco and Dennis Walsh of Ignacio; a brother, Jack Craig of San Leandro; a sister, Marie Smith of San Rafael, and five grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Isabella’s Church, Terra Linda. Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. today at Chapel of the Hills, San Anselmo. Entombment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery, San Rafael. The family prefers that memorial contributions be to the American Heart Association.

A Death Notice in the same paper mentions the grandchildren by name: Nancy, Shari and Steven Walsh, and Shannon and Michael Walsh Jr.
