Christopher Anthony Baseheart

The Honorable Kentucky Colonel passed away peacefully on September 1, 2001 at home in Novato. Born in Owensboro, Kentucky 12/18/12 to Chris W. and Bertie Baseheart. Beloved husband of Bonnie, deceased 12/28/86. Loving father of Pat Vachini of Petaluma, Vicki Baseheart of Glen Ellen, John Baseheart of Novato, Jeff Baseheart of Rohnert Park and Tim Baseheart of Corte Madera. Loving father-in-law to Don Vachini, Sharon Church, Pam Baseheart and Patti Baseheart. Loving grandfather of Chris Vachini and his wife Michelle; Matt, Jason and Angela Vachini, Jim Hansen, Tyler and Timmy Baseheart. The Greatest Great Granddad to Sophia and Domenic Vachini and Adyn Hansen. Loving brother of Sister Mary Christopher Baseheart, Louisville, Kentucky, as well as numerous relatives in Kentucky and beyond.

Chris came to California and Hamilton Air Force Base in 1942 on a troop train while in the Army Air Corp. He fell in love with Novato and California and never looked back. In 1945 he brought his wife and first child home to Novato. Chris managed the NCO Club at Hamilton Air Force Base for several years before stepping out on his own and opening his first of many “famous” lounge and restaurants in 1954. Chris and Bonnie worked together in Novato to manage The Club Rio, Bellucci’s Spaghetti House at t he Skylark, Plaza Cocktail’s and winding up his career at Baseheart’s in August 1994. Inducted into the Marin County Bowling Hall of Fame 1979, he was a member of the Novato Elks Lodge No. 2655 and the American Legion Post 540.

Chris was a kind and generous person. Everyone who met “The Whistler” loved this gentle man who was blessed with a happy heart. His steak sandwiches were known far and near. Besides his family, Chris leaves behind many, many dear and loving friends.

Visitation will be at Keaton Mortuary at 1801 Novato Blvd. in Novato at 5 p.m. followed by the Rosary at 7 p.m. Thursday, September 6. The Funeral Mass will be at Our Lady of Loretto at 1806 Novato Boulevard at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 7. Friends are invited to a reception celebrating Chris’ life at The Novato Elks Club at 7078 Redwood Boulevard in Novato immediately following the Service.
