Pioneer Resident Claimed By Death
L. H. Butterfield, life long resident of Marin county, and the first white boy born in Nicasio, passed away suddenly yesterday at Biggs, Butte county, of pneumonia.
In good health he left here a few days ago with Fred Dickson on a business trip to Biggs, and he was seized with the fatal illness shortly after his arrival there.
He was born in Nicasio 62 years ago, in 1857, a few years after the arrival of his parents here from the East. His father in the early fifties fenced what is known as the Sais Ranch, now the Hotaling property.
He is survived by three sisters, Mrs. R. T. Warden, of San Rafael; Mrs. E. A. Dornberger, of San Anselmo, and Mrs. Helen Reynolds, of Fairfax.
The remains will be shipped here today for burial Sunday afternoon, the arrangements to be made by Stephen Eden's Undertaking Parlors.
