Jay Young of Sleepy Hollow, 22
Jay Andrew Young of Sleepy Hollow, a native of Marin, died yesterday at a local hospital following a lengthy fight with cancer. He was 22.
Young, whose father took a leading role in the battle against the disease which took his son't life, was a lifelong resident of the county and was employed at Wallabs, Inc., a medical laboratory in San Rafael.
He attended Tamalpais Valley School during the time his parents lived in that section of Marin, Sleepy Hollow School, Sir Francis Drake High School in San Anselmo and College of Marin.
Young, who lived at 15 Estates Drive, was a member of Christ the Victor Lutheran Church in Fairfax.
His father, John, is a board member of the Marin branch of the American Cancer Society and is a director of the Marin Independent Service Station Association, which in the past has organized fund-raising drives to fight cancer.
The father is owner and operator of a Beacon service station in San Anselmo. The young man's mother, Doris, is a teacher at Alpha Schools in San Rafael.
Survivors, besides his parents, are a sister, Joy Droz of San Rafael; three brothers, Jerrold, John and James, all of Sleepy Hollow, and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Young of Newark [Alameda Co.] and Mr. and Mrs. B. C. Cromer of Magalia, Butte County.
Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Christ the Victor Lutheran Church, with burial in Mount Tamalpais Cemetery, San Rafael. The family prefers contributions to the American Cancer Society, Marin branch, Christ the Victor Lutheran Church, or a favorite charity.
A Death Notice in the same paper says that he was a native of San Francisco.
The California Death Index adds information: Jay A. Young was born June 13, 1950.
