Pioneer Guard at San Quentin Dies
Leander Carpenter, for twenty years on the guard line at San Quentin, passed away Tuesday after an illness of several months. He was one of the most popular employees of the institution and numbered among his friends without exception every man with whom he had ever associated.
His fellow employees tonight will gather at Sawyer's Parlor to show their last mark of respect before the funeral takes place tomorrow at the same place.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Jane Carpenter, and four children, Mrs. A. Beger, Mrs. William Davison, C. T. and J. H. Carpenter.
The deceased was a native of Tennessee and 69 years of age.
