A private funeral service will be held for Dewey Donnell of Sonoma, a prominent Sonoma County rancher.
Donnell died unexpectedly Monday.
Donnell was born in Ohio, He was a graduate of Stanford University.
Donnell moved to Sonoma County in 1941 and lived there the rest of his life.
In addition to his ranching, Donnell was active in civic affairs in Sonoma. He was a member of the Sonoma Valley Hospital foundation Board and the United Way. In San Francisco, he was chairman of the West Coast Advisory Board of the Institute of International Education. He also belonged to the Stanford Library Visiting Committee and the Bohemian Club.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; a son, Bruce Donnell of New York City; two daughters, Nancy Stefansky of Oregon and Sandra Faggioli of Belvedere; two brothers, James and John Donnell, both of Ohio, and two grandchildren.
The family prefers memorial contributions to the Institute of International Education in San Francisco, the Stanford University Libraries, or the Sonoma Valley Hospital Foundation.
