Duane C. Gomez, son of baseball Hall of Fame pitcher Vernon (Lefty) Gomez of Fairfax, died Sunday at Marin General Hospital of injuries received in a motorcycle accident at Sears Point Raceway. He was 20.
A graduate of Sir Francis Drake High School and a student at College of Marin in Kentfield, Gomez lived with his parents at 33 Porteous Avenue. He was a native of Boston.
According to the Marin County Coroner's office, Gomez suffered a dislocated shoulder, and several neck injuries, as well as a possible skull fracture in the accident. He died in the intensive care unit of the hospital five hours after he was admitted.
The California Highway Patrol had no details of the accident.
Gomez was a member of the Motorcycle Club of American.
He is survived by his parents, and three sisters, Mrs. Gery Gomez of San Anselmo, Mrs. Vernona Banas of Weston, Mass., and Mrs. Sharon Carstensen of San Diego.
A Mass of Resurrection will be offered Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Rita's Church in Fairfax. Rosary will be recited Tuesday at 8 p.m. at the Chapel of the Hills, San Anselmo. Interment arrangements are pending.
Friends may call at the Chapel of the Hills after 2 p.m. Tuesday.
