HERRICK, Marion Schaller -- Died July 3, 2001 at home after a brief illness. Born November 4, 1911 in San Francisco. Daughter of Dr. Walter Frank Schaller and Florence Crum Schaller. Marion Herrick was the granddaughter of Sophia Louderback Neal, who sailed around the Horn to San Francisco in 1849 and who was an early member of the Association of Pioneer Women of California. Survived by her husband, Stephen Gale Herrick, her sons Michael Schaller Herrick of San Francisco and Jerome Neal Herrick of Piedmont, her daughter Andrea Herrick Viel of Piedmont, stepdaughter Ann Brooks of Novato, and her stepson Stephen Brooks Herrick of Atherton. She is also survived by her ten grandchildren. Marion Herrick spent happy summers at the family cabin on the south shore of Lake Tahoe. Between the ages of seventeen and twenty she studied in Europe, becoming fluent in both French and German. In 1938, Marion Herrick graduated from UC Berkeley, later earning a teaching certificate from San Francisco's Teacher's College. She married in 1942. For many years she made her home in Berkeley, where she raised her children, and returned to San Francisco in 1969- She was an avid bridge player, a golfer, and thoroughly enjoyed traveling with her family. She was a past member of Claremont Country Club, The Town and Country Club, The Century Club, Metropolitan Club, Berkeley Women's City Club, and an associate member of The San Francisco Golf Club. Mrs. Herrick is lovingly remembered by family and friends for her kind heart, her good will to all, and her generosity. Private memorial service.
