Ernest Carl Sandstrom

Ernest Carl Sandestrom of Stockton, a former Marin resident, died Wednesday at a Stockton convalescent hospital. He was 79.

Mr. Sandstrom was born in Sausalito and lived most of his life in Marin. For 40 years, he was a resident of San Rafael, where he operated a plumbing business. In 1978, Mr. Sandstrom retired and moved to Sonoma County. Last year he moved to Stockton to be near his daughter.

During World War II, he served as an engineer for the Merchant Marines. He later worked for the Santa Fe Railroad as a tugboat engineer.

His wife, Minnie Sandstrom, died in October.

Survivors are is daughter, Jean Ebenhack of Stockton; a brother, Bob Sandstrom of Oakmont; three sisters, Virginia Solas of Oakmont, Eleanor Baker of Mill Valley, and Eva Parsley of Sacramento; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at DeYoung Memorial Chapel, 601 N. California St., Stockton.

A Death Notice in the same paper mentions that he was the grandfather of Susan McCormac and Greg Ebenhack, and great-grandfather of Timmie McCormac, Ryan Neal, Elissa Ebenhack, Mandi and Ryan McCormac.
