Retired Navy officer
Anthony Alfano of Novato died Wednesday, Feb. 24,1993, after he was struck by a car. He was 85.
Mr. Alfano was born in New Haven, Conn. He lived in Novato about 30 years.
He served in the U.S. Navy for 24 years, retiring as a chief petty officer.
He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars 7816.
He loved to walk around the town of Novato and ride bicycles, as well as work out at the gym.
Mr. Alfano is survived by a daughter, Peggy Ziegler of West Haven, Conn.; a son, Joseph Alfano of Florida; three sisters, Jean Mignone, Theresa Russell and Antoinette George, all of Connecticut; and a brother, Joseph Alfano, also of Connecticut.
His wife, Cecile Alfano, died earlier in 1985.
A memorial service will be held this evening three miles off the coast near Bodega Bay.
The family requests donations to Our Lady of Loretto Church in Novato.
