Noel B. O’Connell, a longtime Larkspur resident, died unexpectedly Thursday after collapsing at his home. He was dead on arrival at a local hospital.
O’Connell, 80, had lived in Larkspur for the past 35 years.
He was born in San Francisco and grew up there and in San Rafael, where his father practiced medicine for a time.
O’Connell was a photo lab technician for the government before retiring 19 years ago.
During World War II, he enlisted in the Navy and served in the South Pacific.
O’Connell was an avid sportsman and belonged to the Marin Rod and Gun Club and Peacock Gap Golf and Country Club. He also belonged to the American Legion Post No. 313 in Larkspur.
He is survived by his wife, Mabel O’Connor (sic) of the family home in Larkspur.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church in Larkspur. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in San Rafael. The rosary will be recited tonight at 8 at Keaton’s Mortuary in San Rafael.
A Death Notice in the same paper adds information: he was the uncle of Jack O’Connell and Margaret Mary Wilson, and brother-in-law of Thomas Shine.
