Services for James N. Dismuke of Fairfax, former owner of Fairfax French Laundry and Cleaners, will be Saturday.
Mr. Dismuke, who along with his wife, Angela Dismuke, operated the Marin business for 36 years, died Monday. He was 80.
“We bought the original Fairfax French Laundry and Cleaners on April Fool’s Day in 1949, and we’ve been laughing ever since,” said his wife of 46 years, Angelea Dismuke of Fairfax.
Mr. and Mrs. Dismuke parlayed the business into a chain of seven facilities across Marin.
Mr. Dismuke was a co-founder of the Chamber of Commerce in Fairfax. The couple retired 10 years ago.
Mr. Dismuke was born in Comer, Ala., and served in the Navy during World War II.
Mr. Dismuke enjoyed duck hunting, fishing and tending his vegetable garden.
He was a member of the San Rafael Elks Club and The American Legion Post. No. 179, San Anselmo.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Dismuke is survived by two sons, James N. Dismuke of Fairfax and Joseph “Poe” Dismuke of Petaluma; two daughters, Jeanette M. Iacopi of Forest Knolls and Virginia Carver of Bakersfield; and five grandchildren.
A vigil service will be 7:30 p.m. Friday at Chapel of the Hills, San Anselmo.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Chapel of the Hills. Burial will follow at Mount Tamalpais Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be sent to Hospice of Marin or the American Cancer Society.
