Mill Valleyan Dies in Deserted Club; Poison Indicated
Richard H. Rising, 57, of 58 Matilda avenue, Mill Valley, was found dead last night, slumped in a chair at the Pine Social Club, Sansome street near Pine, San Francisco.
Investigating officers found an empty poison bottle beneath the dead man's chair. On the counter of the cigar establishment, which fronts the club, Rising had left a sealed letter, addressed to a daughter in San Francisco.
The card club had been closed for the weekend since Friday night. Rising's body was discovered by a janitor. Ill health was given as a motive by Mrs. Carroll Edwards who was summoned by police. She said her brother had undergone several operations in the past two years.
Rising is survived by his wife, Ethel; four children, Mrs. Norma Manley, Martha Jean Rising, Lynne Rising and Mrs. Virginia Carol Devine; his mother, Mrs. Caroline Rising, and brother and sisters, Stanley Rising, Mrs. Edwards and Mrs. Yb Edgar (sic).
The body is at Russell & Gooch Funeral Parlor, Mill Valley.
